Texas A&M is headed toward its best NFL Draft Class in program history and former Aggie LB Taurean York is excited for another chance to make history.
The NFL Draft is drawing closer and closer and it appears that several former Aggies will have the honor of having their names called in Pittsburgh.
A program record 13 prospects earned an invite to the NFL Combine, and many more showcased their talents at Texas A&M's Pro Day.
Current mock drafts have Texas A&M sending between 10-13 Aggies into the NFL, which would set a new program record in College Station.
Following their successful 11-2 campaign, complete with a trip to the College Football Playoff, it is easy to see why this year's draft class has the potential to break the team's record.
One of those prospects for Texas A&M is linebacker Taurean York, who highlighted his journey and expressed excitement at taking the next step alongside his teammates.
"That's definitely a special feeling for sure. Just came a long way from my freshman year. So just to be in this position and see a lot of us in this position as well, it's definitely heartwarming," said York.
Throughout this aforementioned career journey at Texas A&M, York piled up 228 tackles, 6.5 sacks, forced a fumble and hawked an interception. At the Aggies' recent Pro Day, they claimed he ran the team's fastest 40-yard dash at 4.53.
With his on-the-field resume and pre-draft showcase, York is all but locked in as one of the Aggies to make the transition to the professional league. However, he is not done preparing for the future, as he said he's been training out west in Arizona ahead of the NFL season.
He emphasized that this trip to Phoenix allowed him to focus on improvement, on the field, spiritually and personally in a way that he was not able to achieve back home in College Station.
"I've been working out in Phoenix, Arizona, living the life...I got closer to God...A lot of stuff I wasn't knocking down here in College Station. I went up there and got right with this."
York's commitment to improvement is sure to impress a few interested NFL squads who could use some help in the linebacker room. One of those may be close, as the Dallas Cowboys have been vocal about their desire to pick up a linebacker.
Regardless of where York goes, he will continue to make history for Texas A&M alongside a group of teammates that shattered expectations and helped return the Aggies to national prominence.
