Smith was invited to the Cowboys' "Dallas Day," which has the potential to be another nice story for the NFC franchise.
We are at the stage of the offseason where draft hopefuls are putting the final touches on their plans for the NFL Draft, and for Texas A&M's E.J. Smith, he's getting ready for what could be a cool moment.
Having spent the last two college seasons with the Aggies, Smith posted 557 yards and 5 TDs playing as a rotational player on the offense.
And that it appears, has caught the eye of his father's team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith was invited to the Cowboys' "Dallas Day" invite-only workouts last week as the franchise looks to see what Smith has in his locker that could be of use in 2026.
E.J. has all of the tools needed to make it as a rotational back in the NFL, and while the Cowboys' running back room appears set, there is always room for competition.
Exactly where Smith will be drafted is unknown, but a later-round pick is expected.
The Cowboys have a handful of draft picks, highlighted by their two first-round selections, but the franchise has eight in total, with three in the fifth round.
So Smith, in what would be a nice story, could end up playing for the team his father won a Super Bowl with.
Granted, a lot still has to happen for that to even be a chance, but getting invited to "Dallas Day" is a step in the right direction.
And what is also neat is head coach Brian Schottenheimer's words on E.J.
"Very cool," Schottenheimer said via ESPN. "You know me, man, I'm family. I'm all family. And you watch his film and he was an incredible short-yardage runner, powerful. But, yeah, just watching him move, seeing him in person, the type of young man he is, it's cool."
Smith's dual-threat ability as both a runner and a receiver will interest the Cowboys, as will his superb pass-protection skills, which Dallas lost when Javonte Williams was injured.
A patient runner, Smith could be a nice change-up option in the NFL, but it remains to be seen which team could look to take him in the draft.
The Cowboys clearly have eyes on E.J., and as we know, the draft is unpredictable, but at least Smith is on the radar.
