Texas A&M flipped three-star safety Errol Kerns III from Miami (Ohio), adding another defensive piece to the nation’s No. 1 class.
Texas A&M football keeps swinging like a program that knows exactly what it wants in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
The Aggies, already sitting on the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, added another piece Friday by flipping three-star safety Errol Kerns III from Miami (Ohio).

That makes four commitments in one week for Mike Elko’s staff, and this one comes with some Big Ten fingerprints all over it.
Kerns, a 5-11, 195-pound defensive back from Indianapolis, had interest from Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin before Texas A&M pulled him into the boat after an official visit to College Station.
Kerns made the move official with a social media announcement.
“After much prayer, thought, and conversations with my family, I have decided to withdraw my commitment from Miami (OH) and officially commit to Texas A&M University. I want to thank Coach Elko, Coach Williams, and the entire Texas A&M staff for their belief in me and for making College Station feel like home.
"Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I'm excited for what's ahead and ready to get to work!”
That’s another example of Texas A&M winning a recruiting battle outside its backyard and beating several major programs to the punch.
Kerns is ranked as the No. 743 overall player and No. 72 safety in the 247Sports Composite. He’s also listed as the No. 14 player in Indiana.
The ranking may not scream headliner, but the production does.
As a junior at Lawrence High School, Kerns piled up 90 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions and five pass breakups while also contributing on special teams.
In other words, he’s not just a deep-field safety. He’s active, physical and comfortable making plays in multiple phases.
The Aggies are now building a loaded safety room in the 2027 class.
Kerns joins five-star prospects Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, along with three-star athlete Loia Valade, giving Texas A&M four safety commits in the cycle.
With 19 total commitments and five five-star prospects already on board, Texas A&M isn’t just leading the recruiting rankings. The Aggies are applying pressure everywhere.
