Texas A&M baseball bounced back from a 5-3 loss to Ole Miss with an 18-5 eruption led by Ben Royo’s two homers and four RBIs.
Texas A&M baseball needed a response at Ole Miss, and the Aggies didn’t just answer. They unloaded.
After dropping Friday’s opener 5-3 to No. 20 Ole Miss at Swayze Field, No. 9 Texas A&M came back with an 18-5 beatdown Saturday, ending the game in seven innings and reminding everyone that this lineup still has serious bite, even while dealing with key injuries.
The wildest part? Ben Royo entered the game without a hit this season. He left it as the biggest story of the weekend.
With Nico Partida and Boston Kellner unavailable, Royo stepped into a larger role and delivered a monster performance, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.
For a player with only four at-bats entering the day, that’s not just a spark. That’s a flare shot.
Blake Binderup added another home run for the Aggies, continuing to show why Texas A&M’s depth could matter in June.
When the stars aren’t healthy, the bench can’t just survive. It has to produce. Saturday, it did.
The Aggies also got the pitching reset they needed. Aiden Sims gave Texas A&M stability, striking out five while allowing three earned runs and four hits.
Gavin Lyons and Hunter Bond finished the job, combining for four innings while allowing five hits and two runs.
Texas A&M’s offense was relentless after being muted in Game 1.
The Aggies scored five runs in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Eight of nine hitters recorded a hit.
That’s the kind of response postseason teams need. Friday looked frustrating. Saturday looked dangerous.
Now the Aggies have a chance to turn a rough road start into a statement series.
