Texas A&M pitcher Juan Vargas is reportedly entering the transfer portal after posting a 4.44 ERA in one season with the Aggies.
Texas A&M baseball has another arm headed out the door, and this one adds to an already busy offseason in College Station.
Senior right-hander Juan Vargas is reportedly entering the transfer portal after spending one season with the Aggies.
Vargas, a Panama native, came to Texas A&M after two seasons at Tennessee Tech and gave the Aggies some needed bullpen depth during a rocky 2026 campaign.
His numbers were solid, if not spectacular. Vargas finished his lone year in Bryan-College Station with a 4.44 ERA across 26.1 innings, striking out 22 batters while issuing 10 walks.
He appeared in 20 games and made three starts, giving Texas A&M a flexible option on a staff that spent much of the season searching for answers.
But Vargas never fully became a major piece of the puzzle.
After being brought in to help stabilize the pitching staff, he was used sparingly down the stretch.
His season ended on a rough note in the Bryan-College Station Regional, where he allowed three runs on seven hits in one inning during Texas A&M’s 14-3 loss to USC.
That outing wasn’t the whole story, but it was a brutal final impression.
Before arriving at Texas A&M, Vargas had shown real value at Tennessee Tech. He made 34 relief appearances for the Golden Eagles, saved eight games and posted a 5-3 record.
His best season came as a sophomore, when he struck out 56 hitters and finished with a 3.19 ERA.
That track record should make him an intriguing portal option for programs looking for an experienced right-handed reliever.
For the Aggies, this is another reminder that the roster churn isn’t slowing down. Vargas is reportedly the fifth Texas A&M pitcher to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The Aggies have also added five pitching pieces, so this isn’t just a talent drain — it’s a full-blown staff reset.
And after the way 2026 ended, that reset probably isn’t optional.
