Texas A&M baseball will be without Josh Stewart for the rest of the regular season, creating a major bullpen problem as SEC play begins to heat up.

Texas A&M baseball just got hit with another brutal blow, and this one lands right where the Aggies could least afford it.

Josh Stewart is out for the rest of the regular season, leaving Texas A&M’s pitching staff even thinner as the grind of SEC baseball starts to tighten its grip.

For a team trying to stay in the national conversation, losing one of its most trusted veteran arms is a serious problem.

That’s what makes this sting so much. Stewart was supposed to be part of the solution in the bullpen. After battling through adversity and working his way back, the veteran right-hander looked ready to carve out a major role for Michael Earley’s club.

In his first four outings this season, Stewart piled up 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings, giving the Aggies exactly the kind of swing-and-miss relief work every contender needs.

Now, he’s sidelined again.

It’s an especially cruel turn for Stewart, whose rise took off during Texas A&M’s 2024 postseason charge. During that season, he made 25 appearances, struck out 39 hitters in 31.2 innings, and gave the Aggies high-leverage value during their run to the College World Series finals.

When the lights got brightest, he answered. In Omaha, he posted 12 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA, proving he could handle pressure in the biggest moments.

That’s why his absence changes the math for this staff.

Texas A&M was already trying to navigate life without Caden McCoy, and now the burden grows even heavier on Clayton Freshcorn and the rest of the bullpen.

“Next man up” sounds good in March, but in SEC play, missing proven arms can become a weekly problem fast.

The Aggies still have talent. They still have goals. But there’s no sugarcoating this one.

Losing Josh Stewart for the rest of the regular season leaves Texas A&M baseball short on experience, short on depth, and suddenly walking a much thinner line on the mound.
