Texas A&M's No. 1 recruiting class faces another test as five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson plans a Notre Dame visit just weeks before signing day.

Texas A&M's struggles on the football field may be creating another problem for Mike Elko, and this one involves the future of the Aggies' top-ranked 2027 recruiting class.

Five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, one of Texas A&M's most valuable commitments, reportedly plans to visit Notre Dame this weekend when the Fighting Irish host No. 1 Miami.

Henderson informed Notre Dame recruiting insider Mike Singer of his intentions, raising questions about whether the Aggies can keep another highly regarded defender from exploring other options before December's early signing period.

It's not exactly the news Texas A&M fans wanted after four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside flipped his commitment to Miami last month.

Henderson hasn't announced any plans to decommit, and there's no indication he's made a decision to change schools. But with the Aggies struggling through a disappointing season, the timing deserves attention.

Texas A&M still holds the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for 2027, featuring six five-star commitments and an impressive collection of defensive talent.

Henderson is a major piece of that foundation.

The elite prospect ranks as the nation's No. 1 linebacker in the Rivals Industry Ranking and has maintained strong relationships with Elko and linebackers coach Travis Williams.

Those connections helped Texas A&M win his commitment despite significant interest from Notre Dame during the summer.

Now the Fighting Irish have another opportunity to make an impression.

And hosting top-ranked Miami certainly provides an attractive atmosphere for one of the country's most coveted defensive recruits.

Henderson has also indicated he hopes to return to College Station for Texas A&M's remaining home games against Tennessee on November 14 and Texas on November 27.

Those visits could prove critical.

Elko's staff has built a recruiting class capable of reshaping the program's future, but keeping elite prospects committed becomes more challenging when results aren't matching expectations.

The Aggies have already watched Whiteside leave for Miami, and another linebacker departure would create additional questions about the program's ability to protect its defensive recruiting haul.

Still, there's an important distinction between taking a visit and changing a commitment.

Henderson remains pledged to Texas A&M, and the Aggies can offer a potential path to early playing time as their linebacker rotation evolves.

The clock, however, is ticking.

College football's early signing period begins December 2, leaving Elko and his staff less than a month to reinforce Henderson's commitment.

With a road game against South Carolina approaching and more recruiting visits on the horizon, Texas A&M has plenty riding on the next four weeks.

Losing Henderson would be a significant setback.

Keeping him would send a much-needed message that the Aggies' recruiting foundation remains solid despite their on-field frustrations.
