Texas A&M freshman Nico Partida is breaking out in SEC play, earning national attention after a huge weekend and a strong start at the plate for the Aggies.
Texas A&M freshman Nico Partida is quickly becoming one of the biggest stories in SEC baseball, and his rise couldn’t come at a better time for the Aggies.
After Texas A&M powered its way to a road sweep of Missouri, Partida’s breakout performance added even more momentum to a club that looks dangerous heading deeper into conference play.
The Aggies entered the weekend needing a spark and got plenty of one from their lineup, which erupted for 39 runs while batting .389 across the three-game series.
Gavin Grahovac grabbed headlines with four home runs, including a grand slam in Sunday’s finale, but Partida made sure his impact was impossible to ignore.
The freshman third baseman delivered two hits and the first multi-homer game of his college career on Saturday, continuing what has been an impressive start to his season.
Partida now owns a .320 batting average with a .413 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage, while also sitting at seven home runs on the year.
Those numbers have helped make him one of Texas A&M’s most important everyday players, especially for a roster replacing key draft departures like Jace LaViolette and Kaeden Kent.
That kind of production hasn’t gone unnoticed. Partida was recently named Perfect Game’s Midseason Freshman of the Year, a major honor that reflects just how valuable he’s been in the early part of the season.
On a roster filled with talent, the Pearland native has carved out a major role with his bat, poise, and consistency.
What makes Partida even more intriguing is that he can also pitch.
He hasn’t taken the mound yet, but if Texas A&M’s pitching depth gets tested later this season, that option could become more than just a fascinating subplot. For now, though, his bat is doing more than enough.
