Texas A&M football is getting an early jolt from its wide receiver room, and a big part of that energy is coming from the freshmen.
After the Aggies wrapped up their seventh spring practice on Thursday, new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins made it clear the program is excited about what it has added at the position.
With Collin Klein leaving to become Kansas State’s head coach, Elko promoted Wiggins to offensive coordinator, putting one of the staff’s most respected developers of wide receiver talent in charge of helping shape the Aggies’ attack for 2026.
So far, the early returns have been encouraging.
Freshman receivers Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, Mike Brown and Jayden Warren have all made strong impressions through spring ball, giving Texas A&M more young depth at a position group that suddenly looks deeper and more competitive.
According to Wiggins, the quartet has picked things up quickly, both mentally and physically, which is usually the biggest hurdle for first-year players adjusting to SEC football.
That fast start is especially important because the Aggies are already managing some injury issues in the receiver room.
With Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey dealing with setbacks, the emergence of young pass catchers gives Texas A&M added flexibility heading into the rest of spring.
It also strengthens a group that already features proven names such as Mario Craver and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton.
If the freshmen continue to develop at this pace, the Aggies may have more than just future potential on their hands. They may have immediate contributors.
For a program with College Football Playoff expectations, that’s a major spring storyline. Texas A&M needed more answers at wide receiver entering the offseason.
Right now, it looks like Wiggins and the Aggies may have found several of them much sooner than expected.
