No. 16 Texas A&M volleyball finally gets to turn the page from a demanding nonconference schedule Sunday when the Aggies host South Carolina in their SEC opener at Reed Arena.
Texas A&M enters conference play at 7-5, but the record doesn't tell the whole story. Jamie Morrison's team has won three straight, highlighted by a four-set road victory over then-No. 20 Creighton and Tuesday's convincing sweep of Rice.
Now the Aggies have some momentum ... and Kyndal Stowers has been right in the middle of it.
Stowers hammered 21 kills and added 15 digs against Creighton, then followed with 17 kills in the 3-0 victory over Rice.
A&M piled up 54 kills against the Owls, its highest total this season in a three-set match.
The production hasn't stopped with Stowers.
Megan Fitch posted 11 kills and 11 digs against Rice for her second double-double of the season, while Taryn Morris added 10 kills.
Setter Kirra Musgrove distributed 46 assists, and freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez finished with 14 digs to extend her streak of double-digit dig performances to 10 matches.
Freshman middle blocker Lolufe Adedeji also provided a lift in her first collegiate start, producing eight kills and four blocks.
Morrison believes the difficult early schedule could ultimately benefit the Aggies.
“I thought we adapted. I thought we learned. I thought we got better,” Morrison said while reflecting on A&M's nonconference slate. “I think it's going to pay dividends with what we went through.”
South Carolina comes to College Station at 7-4 after dropping a five-set battle at Georgia in its SEC opener Wednesday.
History heavily favors the Aggies. Texas A&M owns a 19-3 advantage in the all-time series and swept the Gamecocks the last time South Carolina visited Reed Arena.
Sunday's match begins at 2:30 p.m. CT and will stream on SEC Network+. It starts a three-match SEC homestand for A&M, with Alabama and Mississippi State coming to College Station next.
