Texas A&M football enters 2026 with Marcel Reed, a deeper defense, and ESPN keeping Mike Elko’s Aggies at No. 10 in its Way-Too-Early Top 25.

Texas A&M football is heading into the 2026 season with real momentum, and ESPN’s latest Way-Too-Early Top 25 only added to the buzz.

The Aggies remained at No. 10 as spring practice winds down, a sign that Mike Elko’s program is still being viewed nationally as a legitimate College Football Playoff threat.

With quarterback Marcel Reed back, transfer additions on both sides of the ball, and another strong recruiting haul in place, Texas A&M looks built to stay in the conversation.

That doesn’t mean the path will be easy.

The Aggies face one of the toughest schedules in the country, with road trips to LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.

That kind of slate will test Texas A&M’s depth early and often, especially in the trenches. But there’s also enough proven talent on the roster to believe this team can handle it.

Reed is the biggest key. As he enters his second full year as the starter, the offense needs more consistency from the quarterback position.

He’ll have help. Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton joins a receiving group that already had plenty of intrigue, giving Reed another weapon as new offensive playcaller Holmon Wiggins settles in.

On defense, the Aggies attacked portal needs with purpose. Safety Tawfiq Byard and cornerback Rickey Gibson should strengthen the secondary, while Anto Saka and CJ Sims add needed bodies and upside to the defensive front.

ESPN summed up Texas A&M’s outlook well, writing that “the Aggies seem to be built to last” under Elko.

The network also noted Reed “needs to be more consistent,” which feels fair for a quarterback expected to lead a playoff-caliber team.

The bigger picture is clear: Texas A&M is no longer trying to convince people it belongs.

The Aggies have reached the point where expectations are real, the roster is deeper, and anything short of another serious playoff push will feel like a missed opportunity.
