Texas A&M basketball adds 2027 four-star guard Chase Richardson, a fast-paced playmaker who fits Bucky McMillan’s rising Aggies.

Texas A&M basketball has its first commitment of the 2027 recruiting class, and Chase Richardson looks like an ideal fit for Bucky McMillan’s fast-moving system.

Richardson, a four-star guard from Friendswood, Texas, committed to the Aggies after drawing interest from several major programs.

The 6-1 playmaker gives McMillan an early recruiting win as Texas A&M continues building momentum after a strong first season under its new coach.

McMillan quickly became one of college basketball’s rising names after guiding a transfer-heavy Aggies roster to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Houston.

Now, with a full offseason to work, he’s already reshaping the 2026-27 roster through the portal while also planting a flag in high school recruiting.

Richardson’s game fits what Texas A&M wants to be. He averaged 18.3 points, 5.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game last season, showing the scoring burst, passing feel and defensive energy needed in McMillan’s up-tempo approach.

His size won’t scare off the Aggies, either.

Richardson plays with pace, attacks the rim and creates for others, traits that matter in a system designed to generate extra possessions and open shots.

The commitment also strengthens Texas A&M’s in-state recruiting presence. Richardson is ranked by Rivals as the No. 94 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 23 point guard and the No. 5 player in Texas.

For McMillan, this is more than just a first pledge in the class. It’s a sign that recruits are buying into the style, energy and direction of the program.

Texas A&M is still early in its 2027 work, but landing Richardson gives the Aggies a strong starting point ... and another reason to believe McMillan’s rebuild is moving fast.
