Texas A&M is pushing into elite 2027 recruiting, with Bucky McMillan’s staff visiting five-star forward Dawson Battie.
Texas A&M basketball recruiting is already gaining momentum under Bucky McMillan.
After building a transfer-heavy roster that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, McMillan has quickly turned that success into traction with high school prospects.
The Aggies landed their first 2027 commitment last week from four-star guard Chase Richardson, and now they’re chasing an even bigger name: five-star forward Dawson Battie.
Battie, a standout at St. Mark’s in Dallas, is one of the top players in the 2027 class. According to 247Sports rankings, he’s the No. 17 overall prospect, No. 3 power forward and No. 3 player in Texas.
Texas A&M has already visited Battie, putting the Aggies in the mix with Baylor, Nebraska, Houston and Texas. That’s a crowded in-state battle, but McMillan’s fast-paced “Bucky Ball” system gives A&M a clear selling point.
The Aggies are also building proof on the floor. McMillan has nearly completed his 2026-27 roster with six transfer additions, led by former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season.
With key returners also in place, Texas A&M should have a roster that fits McMillan’s aggressive style.
That matters in recruiting. Players want pace, freedom and a path to production.
Under former coach Buzz Williams, Texas A&M leaned heavily on transfers and player development, highlighted by Wade Taylor IV becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer.

McMillan is still expected to use the portal, but Richardson’s commitment and the Battie pursuit show he’s aiming higher with high school talent.
If Texas A&M can stay involved with Battie, it would be another sign that McMillan’s system is already changing the Aggies’ recruiting ceiling.
