Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving is heading to the NCAA Championships with a small but intriguing group, and the Aggies will have chances to make noise in both the pool and on the boards.
The national meet begins Wednesday in Atlanta, where Texas A&M men’s swimming will be represented by eight athletes across individual events, diving and relays.
The headliner on the swimming side is Logan Brown. Brown qualified for three individual races and gives the Aggies a proven scorer to watch this week.
His top times this season include 51.81 in the 100 breaststroke, 1:55.55 in the 200 breaststroke and 1:41.59 in the 200 individual medley, all marks posted at the SEC Championships. That kind of versatility makes him one of the most important pieces of the Texas A&M NCAA roster.
The diving group may be where the Aggies carry their biggest upside.
Jaxon Bowshire returns to the national stage after finishing as the NCAA runner-up in platform diving a year ago, and he qualified this time with a score of 808.20 at the Zone D Championships. Emilio Trevino is set for his first NCAA appearance after earning spots in both platform and 3-meter, posting scores of 772.20 and 735.25. Matthew Aigner will also make his NCAA Championships debut after qualifying in platform with a 679.40.
Texas A&M also advanced in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay, giving the program more opportunities to score. Seth Reno, Ben Sytsma, Ben Scholl and Alejandro Michelena are listed as relay alternates for the meet, adding depth to the Aggies’ travel group.
For a program that doesn’t need a massive roster to make an impact, this week is about maximizing every swim and every dive.
Brown’s breaststroke events, Bowshire’s platform run and Trevino’s double qualification give Texas A&M several paths to a productive championship meet. Now the challenge is turning qualification into points on one of college swimming’s biggest stages.
