The Sep. 18, 2027 matchup between New Mexico and Texas A&M at Kyle Field has been cancelled as SEC teams adjust to the new conference schedule.

With the SEC now shifting to a nine-game conference slate similar to other power conferences, it's caused teams to shuffle their schedule of non-conference games in the early fall that are planned in advance.

These games are crucial to fit into the early slate, but also allow major programs like Texas A&M to schedule winnable games ahead of a gauntlet of a conference season in the sport's most prolific league.

For the opposition, these opportunities serve as major financial boosts, a platform to play in a high-profile setting, and a chance to make history with an upset.

The Aggies football program made one of these schedule adjustments this week as it's been confirmed that a 2027 home game against New Mexico has been cancelled.

Texas A&M is now void of paying the $1.4 million due to New Mexico after the Sept. 18, 2027 game. Lobos athletic director Ryan Berryman clarified the situation in a statement.

"UNM received $300,000 in 2023 upon signing, and another $1.4 [million] was due in 2027 after the game was played," he said. "At this point in time, UNM has not elected to pursue any legal action. We are optimistic that a future scheduling opportunity between the two institutions may present itself in the future.”

According to Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts, the school "exercised its right to terminate the game contract without financial penalty."

New Mexico, which posted an impressive 9-4 record last season, has quickly filled the opening with a matchup against Texas Tech in Lubbock as the replacement game.

Texas A&M, which finished the 2025 season 11-2 and qualified for the CFP in 2025, has not yet filled the spot to meet the threshold of an expected 12-game season.

The Aggies open the 2027 season against Texas State on Sept. 4 at Kyle Field. The non-conference away game is set to be at Mountain American Stadium in Tempe, Arizona against Arizona State.

Texas A&M will then have five SEC games at home following the two non-conference contests.
