Texas A&M football recruiting is starting to feel dangerous in the 2027 cycle, and five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson might be the next major domino.
The Aggies are already building what could become a historic defensive backs class, and Dobson’s recruitment just took a fascinating turn.

The elite Charlotte-area cornerback reportedly canceled his planned official visit to LSU and shifted that weekend to Michigan instead. For Texas A&M fans, that’s not a commitment.
But it’s absolutely a development worth watching.
Dobson is one of the biggest names in the 2027 class. He’s ranked as the No. 6 overall recruit in the Rivals300 and is viewed as one of the top cornerback prospects in the country.
Texas A&M has been pushing hard, and recent buzz has increasingly pointed toward Mike Elko’s program becoming the team to beat.
That matters because LSU had been viewed as one of the Aggies’ biggest threats.
Anytime a five-star defensive back backs away from a Baton Rouge visit, eyebrows go up across the SEC. The Tigers don’t just recruit defensive backs. They’ve built part of their brand on them.
Still, this race isn’t over.
Michigan is clearly making a move, and Dobson’s new official visit to Ann Arbor shows the Wolverines are more than window dressing. South Carolina is also a real factor because of Dobson’s regional ties.
He plays in North Carolina now, but his past connection to Rock Hill, South Carolina, gives Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks a legitimate emotional angle.
That’s why Texas A&M can’t coast. Not with a recruit like this.
The Aggies are also chasing John Meredith, another premier 2027 corner, in a battle that includes Texas. Add in Mark Matthews’ commitment and the broader momentum around the class, and it’s easy to see why Aggie fans are dreaming big.
If A&M lands Dobson, this secondary haul could go from excellent to absurd.

Elko’s pitch is simple ... come to College Station, play in the SEC, develop in a defense-first system and help build something nasty on the back end.
For now, Texas A&M looks like it has real juice. Dobson canceling LSU doesn’t end the fight, but it changes the temperature. And right now, the Aggies are heating up fast.
