Texas A&M erased a five-run deficit, but Auburn’s five-homer barrage ended the Aggies’ SEC Tournament run in an 11-8 loss.

Texas A&M softball showed plenty of fight Wednesday morning, but Auburn had the final swing.

The No. 6 seed Aggies climbed all the way back from a five-run hole in the SEC Tournament, tying No. 14 seed Auburn in the sixth inning before the Tigers landed the knockout blow in the seventh.

Auburn’s three-run homer broke an 8-8 tie and handed Texas A&M an 11-8 loss at John Cropp Stadium.

For Texas A&M, now 36-17, this one was a brutal mix of resilience and regret. The Aggies scored five unanswered runs across the fifth and sixth innings, piled up double-digit hits for the 22nd time this season and kept applying pressure.

But Auburn’s power was too much. The Tigers hit five home runs, the most Texas A&M has allowed all season, and scored nine of their 11 runs with two outs.

Micaela Wark led the Aggies with a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBI. Mya Perez continued her monster season with a two-run homer, two walks and two runs scored.

Her on-base streak is now up to a nation-leading 56 games, while her 18 home runs are tied for seventh most in a single season in program history.

Ariel Kowalewski helped Texas A&M grab an early 3-1 lead with a two-run double in the first. Paislie Allen later homered for the second straight game, and Kennedy Powell added two hits, including her 14th double.

The Aggies tied it at 8-8 in the sixth after Allen’s solo shot and Wark’s two-run single, but Auburn answered immediately.

Now Texas A&M shifts its focus to the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies will learn their postseason draw Sunday during the NCAA Softball Selection Show on ESPN2.
