Texas A&M softball beat Ole Miss 10-6 on Friday night behind a huge first inning and Micaela Wark’s three-run homer, moving closer to another SEC series win.
Texas A&M softball kept its strong SEC season rolling Friday night, beating Ole Miss 10-6 in Oxford to grab Game 1 of an important weekend series.
The Aggies now have nine conference wins and moved a step closer to locking up their fourth SEC series victory, while continuing to build momentum for an NCAA Tournament regional berth.
The tone was set immediately.
Texas A&M came out patient at the plate, forced Ole Miss into early trouble and turned that pressure into a six-run first inning.
Kennedy Powell and Tallen Edwards both reached to start the game, and after Mya Perez drew a walk, the Aggies had the bases loaded with no outs.
Micaela Wark got the scoring started with an RBI walk, Ariel Kowalewski followed with a run-producing single, and more free passes helped Texas A&M stretch the inning even further.
Paislie Allen added a sacrifice fly, and Frankie Vrazel delivered the biggest swing of the frame with a two-run triple that put Ole Miss in a deep hole before it could settle in.
Texas A&M didn’t ease up in the second. Wark came through again, this time crushing a three-run home run to push the Aggies’ lead to 9-0 and give them complete control of the game.
That early burst turned out to be more than enough, even as Ole Miss fought back over the middle innings.
The Rebels chipped away with four runs over the next three frames and later added two more, but the Aggies answered with an insurance run when Edwards drove in Vrazel on a sacrifice fly.
That made it 10-5 at the time and gave Texas A&M a little more breathing room heading into the late innings.
Ole Miss never got closer than four. In the seventh, Sidne Peters finished the job in dominant fashion, getting a groundout before striking out the final two hitters to seal the victory.
With the win, Texas A&M heads into Saturday’s matchup in position to claim the series and keep climbing in the SEC standings.
