Former Texas A&M catcher Bear Harrison signed with the Yankees for $437,000 after a breakout season built on power, patience and toughness.
Former Texas A&M catcher Bear Harrison is officially headed to professional baseball after signing his rookie contract with the New York Yankees.
Harrison, selected with the 160th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, agreed to a $437,000 signing bonus.
The deal matches the full assigned value for his draft position and launches the powerful backstop into one of baseball’s most recognizable organizations.
The Yankees aren’t just betting on Harrison’s size. They’re investing in a player who turned getting on base into an art form during his final season in College Station.
At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Harrison hit .297 for the Aggies in 2026 while launching 12 home runs and 15 doubles.
He scored 50 runs, drove in 35 and drew 41 walks. His .495 on-base percentage ranked second in the SEC, placing him among the conference’s most difficult outs.
Harrison also absorbed an almost ridiculous amount of punishment.
He was hit by 23 pitches, setting a Texas A&M single-season record. That combination of patience, toughness and willingness to crowd the plate helped him finish the year with a 32-game on-base streak.
He also produced 12 multi-hit games and eight performances with multiple RBIs, giving the Yankees another reason to believe his offensive approach can translate beyond college baseball.
Harrison’s road to the pros wasn’t built entirely in College Station. The Danville, California, native began his college career at Saint Mary’s before transferring to Texas A&M ahead of the 2025 season.
He quickly became a major piece of the Aggies’ lineup during the beginning of the Michael Earley era, starting 94 games across two seasons.
Harrison brought legitimate power from the right side and the physical frame required to handle the grind of catching.
Now the real work begins.
The Yankees will attempt to sharpen Harrison’s receiving, throwing and overall defensive consistency while determining how much of his college power carries into professional baseball.
His ability to control the strike zone already gives him an intriguing offensive foundation.
Baseball also runs in the Harrison family. Bear’s older brother, Kyle Harrison, has already reached the major leagues and currently pitches for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bear Harrison was one of eight Texas A&M players selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, leaving Earley and the Aggies with several significant holes to replace.
For Harrison, though, the rebuilding project is over. He’s trading maroon for pinstripes and taking his bruising, aggressive style into the Yankees’ farm system.
