The Longhorns have lost their first series of the season and dropped back-to-back games for the first time since April of last year.

The top-ranked Texas Longhorns faced No. 4 Alabama in the highest-ranked matchup of the softball season to this point.

After entering the weekend with just two losses on the season, the Horns doubled their loss total at the end of the series, dropping the latter two games of the series with the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.

GAME 1 - Texas 9, Alabama 1

The series opener began as well as the Longhorns could've asked. Texas scored at least one run in each of the last five innings while pitcher Teagan Kavan struck out nine and only allowed five Alabama hits.

Texas' four home runs (two from Leighann Goode) tied a season-high, and two more extra-base hits allowed the Longhorns to roll to a victory, stretching their win streak in true road games to nine.

Then things went awry.

GAME 2 - Alabama 11, Texas 4

The Horns went up 4-0 after the first inning and a half, but a six spot in the bottom of the second pushed the Tide in front.

Texas' bats went quiet and Alabama scratched in each of the next three innings to build a big lead. Star catcher Reese Atwood was a lone bright spot as she went 2-for-4 at the plate with a 2-run single in the first inning.

She was followed by Kayden Henry's solo homer in the bottom of the inning, but that proved to be the last of what Texas had to offer. The loss was credited to starting pitcher Hannah Wells, who fell to 5-2 in the circle this season.

GAME 3 - Alabama 7, Texas 4

The rubber match of the series when the Crimson Tide's way as Alabama answered Texas' scoring with offense of its own in the second and fourth frames.

Texas got on the board with an Atwood home run in the second, but Bama responded with a 3-run shot and an RBI double.

In the fourth inning, Texas' Katie Stewart hit her 18th home run of the season - and first of the game - but Alabama tacked on three in the next half inning. Stewart helped trim into the deficit with her team-leading 19th bomb, but it wasn't enough for a comeback win as the Horns were held scoreless in the top of the seventh.

Texas fell to 32-4 on the season and 9-3 in SEC action. Alabama is now 35-3 overall and also 9-3 in conference play.

The Longhorns return home for a major matchup with the rival Oklahoma Sooners, with Game 1 on April 10 airing on ESPN 2. Games 2 and 3 will air on ESPN on April 11 and 12th from McCombs Field in Austin.
