Former Texas guard Simeon Wilcher is headed to Seton Hall after one season with the Longhorns, giving the Pirates another experienced backcourt piece.
Simeon Wilcher didn’t spend long on the market. After entering the transfer portal, the former Texas guard made his next move quickly, committing to Seton Hall and giving the Pirates an experienced addition in the backcourt for the 2026-27 college basketball season.
The Simeon Wilcher transfer is a notable Big East storyline because it sends the former Texas basketball guard back to a familiar league and into a situation where he could take on a larger role.
Wilcher, a New Jersey product, appeared in 36 games for the Longhorns during the 2025-26 season and averaged 5.6 points with 1.8 rebounds per game.
He made just one start, but he was a steady depth option in Sean Miller’s first year at Texas and logged meaningful minutes off the bench.
Before arriving in Austin, Wilcher spent two seasons at St. John’s, where he flashed more offensive upside.
During the 2024-25 season, he posted career bests with 8.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, showing the kind of scoring punch that once made him one of the more intriguing guards in his recruiting class.
Out of high school, Wilcher was rated the No. 36 overall player in the 2023 class and the No. 6 shooting guard, numbers that reflected the expectations around his long-term potential.
Now he’ll try to turn that promise into production at Seton Hall. The Pirates finished 21-12 last season and came up short of the NCAA Tournament again, but the program showed enough progress to create momentum heading into next year.
That’s where Wilcher could matter. Seton Hall is getting a battle-tested guard with experience in the SEC, the Big 12 and the Big East. For Wilcher, it’s another fresh start.
For the Pirates, it’s a chance to add proven depth with upside still left to unlock.
