Madison Booker gave Texas women’s basketball fans a performance they won’t forget Sunday, erupting for a record-setting 40 points in the Longhorns’ 100-58 NCAA Tournament win over Oregon at Moody Center.
The sophomore star delivered the highest-scoring NCAA Tournament game in program history and sent Texas to the Sweet 16 with its 10th straight victory.
From the opening quarter, Booker looked completely in control. She scored 14 points in the first period alone, setting the tone for a Texas offense that never let Oregon settle in.
By halftime, Booker already had 19 points, and the Longhorns had built a comfortable lead behind hot outside shooting, active hands on defense and crisp ball movement.
Then came the knockout punch. Booker took over again in the third quarter, pouring in 13 more points as Texas blew the game open for good.
Her combination of confidence, pace and scoring touch was simply too much for Oregon to handle. She finished with a career-high 40 points, topping the previous Texas single-game NCAA Tournament scoring mark of 32.
That headline performance was the clear story, but Booker had plenty of help.
Rori Harmon made her final home game count with nine points, six rebounds and five steals, while also helping set the tone defensively.
Jordan Lee added 17 points, and Teya Sidberry chipped in 11 as Texas got strong production throughout the lineup.
The Longhorns were dominant on both ends. Texas shot 56 percent from the field, forced 15 turnovers and turned those mistakes into 23 points.
The defense also smothered Oregon in the second half, where Texas outscored the Ducks 55-24.
Still, this afternoon belonged to Booker. In March, stars are remembered for taking over big games, and that’s exactly what she did.
With Texas now headed to the Sweet 16, Booker’s 40-point masterpiece feels like more than a record. It feels like a warning to the rest of the bracket.
