Ryan Niblett has game-breaking speed, but the Texas star says Kohen Brown, Ryan Wingo and Warren Roberson all belong in the Longhorns’ fastest-player debate.

Ryan Niblett is one of the fastest players in college football. He just won’t say he’s the fastest player at Texas.

That’s where things get interesting.

The Texas Longhorns return specialist exploded onto the national radar last season with two huge punt-return touchdowns, including a 79-yarder against Mississippi State and a 75-yarder against Oklahoma.

The score against Mississippi State tied the game at 38-38 before Texas eventually won 45-38 in overtime.

Against Oklahoma, Niblett was reportedly clocked at 20.8 mph.

Niblett’s background backs it up, too. At Aldine Eisenhower High School, he ran 10.58 in the 100 meters and 22.14 in the 200. He enters 2026 as a first-team preseason All-American and a player on the Paul Hornung Award watch list.

Still, when asked about the fastest Longhorn on the roster, Niblett stayed away from crowning himself.

“I don’t like to put myself in there. I’m very humble,” he told the Austin American-Statesman.

Instead, he named three teammates who belong in the conversation.

Freshman receiver Kohen Brown may be the most intriguing. The 6-0, 210-pound newcomer reportedly hit 23.1 mph during summer conditioning, enough to get teammates’ attention quickly.

Then there’s Ryan Wingo.

The junior receiver ran 10.55 in the 100 meters in high school and reportedly hit 22 mph on a reception last season. He also carries a 97 speed rating in EA Sports College Football 27, which at least gives the video-game crowd a vote.

The surprise name is Warren Roberson.

The senior defensive back didn’t post the same elite high-school track times, but Niblett clearly believes his football speed belongs in the same tier.

So who’s actually fastest?

That may depend on what you’re measuring. Straight-line track speed? Brown and Wingo have a case. Game speed? Niblett has already proven his.

And Roberson may be the sleeper nobody outside the program is talking about. Texas has plenty of questions heading into the season.

Speed isn’t one of them. Because if Niblett is only one of four players in the conversation, this roster is absolutely flying.
