Texas basketball landed former Saint Mary’s guard Mikey Lewis, adding a proven scorer to Sean Miller’s reshaped Longhorns roster.

Texas basketball added another important piece to its rebuilt roster Thursday, landing a commitment from former Saint Mary’s guard Mikey Lewis through the transfer portal.

Lewis gives the Longhorns a proven scorer with efficiency, experience and enough shooting range to help Sean Miller’s offense right away.

The California native is coming off the best season of his college career, averaging 13.9 points and 2.7 rebounds over 33 games during the 2025-26 campaign.

He also knocked down 36.8 percent of his 3-point attempts, making him a strong fit for a Texas team looking to add more reliable perimeter scoring.

The move continues a busy portal stretch for the Longhorns.

Texas has already added Amari Evans, David Punch, Isaiah Johnson and Elijah Freeman, and Lewis gives the group another guard who has shown he can produce against quality competition.

Lewis’ rise at Saint Mary’s made him one of the more attractive backcourt options available. He earned All-West Coast Conference honors this past season and took on a larger role, setting a career high in starts while becoming a steady offensive presence.

His ability to score without wasting possessions should translate well as Texas tries to build a deeper, more flexible rotation.

The Longhorns are also preparing to bring in one of the nation’s most talented freshman groups, headlined by Bo Ogden and Joe Sterling.

That combination of portal additions and high-end recruiting gives Miller several options as he shapes his first major roster push in Austin.

There’s still time for Texas to keep working the portal, but adding Lewis is a meaningful step. He doesn’t have to carry the offense by himself, and that may be what makes the fit so intriguing.

For a Longhorns program trying to climb into national contention, Lewis brings something every good team needs: a guard who can score, space the floor and play in big moments.
