Texas baseball lost 2-1 to Alabama on Sunday, wasting a 10-strikeout outing from Luke Harrison as the Longhorns settled for a series win in Austin.
Texas baseball couldn’t find enough offense Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Alabama at UFCU Disch-Falk Field despite a dominant showing from left-hander Luke Harrison.
The Longhorns still claimed the weekend series, but the finale slipped away in a tight SEC battle that showcased elite pitching on both sides.
Harrison gave Texas exactly the kind of start it needed. The graduate southpaw worked seven strong innings, piled up a career-best 10 strikeouts and allowed just two runs against a dangerous Alabama lineup.
He also matched one of the longest outings of his career and pushed his pitch count to a personal high at 106, underscoring how much trust Texas had in him during a low-scoring matchup.
That effort continued a striking trend for the Longhorns’ rotation. All three Texas starters recorded double-digit strikeouts during the series, and the staff finished the weekend with 49 total punchouts.
Even in defeat, that’s a major sign for a Texas team trying to stay among the SEC’s elite as the regular season tightens.
The problem on Sunday was run support. Alabama starter Myles Upchurch kept the Longhorns quiet for more than five innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while improving to 5-2.
Reliever Ashton Crowther took over and finished the job, recording the final 11 outs and earning the save.
Alabama scratched across one run in the second inning and added another in the seventh.
Jason Torres was a key piece of the Crimson Tide attack, reaching base three times and driving in the game’s first run.
Texas finally made things interesting in the ninth when Ethan Mendoza delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to one.
That brought the tying run aboard and gave the Longhorns a late spark, but Crowther shut the door before the rally could grow.
Now 30-8 overall and 11-6 in SEC play, Texas turns its attention to Tuesday night’s home game against Air Force, looking to build off another strong weekend series.
