Montre Jackson gives Texas another blue-chip cornerback in 2027, joining John Meredith as the Longhorns build a nasty SEC-ready secondary.
Texas Longhorns recruiting just keeps throwing haymakers, and Montre Jackson is the latest blue-chip punch to land.
The Longhorns added the four-star cornerback to their 2027 recruiting class, beating out SMU, Ole Miss and rival Oklahoma for one of the top defensive backs in the state.
Jackson, a 6-1, 185-pound corner, is ranked as a top-175 national prospect, the No. 22 cornerback in the country and the No. 27 player in Texas.
That’s a big win on its own. Doing it while Oklahoma was pushing hard makes it feel even louder.
Jackson announced his decision with a message that said plenty about the journey.
“To that young kid with dreams, it’s possible,” Jackson wrote.
Now, those dreams are headed to Austin.
For Texas, this isn’t just about adding another star to the commitment list. Jackson gives the Longhorns a physical, competitive corner who fits the modern SEC mold.
He’s got the size to challenge receivers at the line, the confidence to play press coverage and enough versatility to survive when the defense asks him to work in zone.
That matters because Texas isn’t recruiting bodies. It’s building a secondary with attitude.
Jackson joins five-star cornerback John Meredith in the 2027 class, giving the Longhorns two talented defensive backs with different styles and major upside.
Meredith brings the five-star flash. Jackson brings length, edge and a willingness to get into a receiver’s chest before the route even gets started.
That’s the kind of pairing that can change a defensive back room.
The commitment also keeps Texas rolling nationally. With Jackson in the fold, the Longhorns sit at No. 5 in the country and No. 3 in the SEC for the 2027 cycle, carrying 20 total commitments.
That group includes two five-stars and 12 four-stars, which tells you Steve Sarkisian’s staff isn’t just filling the board. It’s hunting premium talent.
And Texas may not be done at cornerback.
Joshua Dobson remains a name to monitor, though Texas A&M and South Carolina appear heavily involved. Rasheem Floyd is another target, but Florida and Missouri are in the mix.
Jacob Whitehead may be the most interesting one, with Texas trending well against Miami.
Landing Jackson gives Texas real momentum. If the Longhorns add one more high-level corner, this defensive back haul could go from strong to downright nasty.
Austin is stacking talent, and the rest of the SEC should probably notice.
