Texas basketball gets a national-stage test against Louisville on Dec. 1 as Sean Miller’s rebuilt Longhorns chase another statement win.

Texas basketball just added a little more fire to its 2026-27 schedule.

The Longhorns will face Louisville on Dec. 1 in the SEC/ACC Challenge, giving Sean Miller’s rebuilt roster an early national-stage measuring stick against one of college basketball’s most recognizable programs.

The tip time hasn’t been announced yet, but the matchup will air across ESPN platforms as part of the annual conference showdown.

For Texas, this isn’t just another nonconference game. It’s a chance to keep building momentum after a strong 2025-26 season and prove this new-look roster can handle a heavyweight brand before league play gets nasty.

Texas and Louisville have met seven times, with the Cardinals holding the edge in the all-time series. The Longhorns’ first win came back in 1986 at the Great Alaska Shootout, before Louisville rattled off four straight victories.

Texas finally punched back in the 2023-24 season, and now the Longhorns get another crack at closing the gap.

There’s also SEC/ACC Challenge pride on the line. Texas will be looking to win in the event for the third straight year, which would be another strong early-season marker for a program trying to position itself as a legitimate national title threat.

The roster will look much different when the Longhorns take the floor. Miller and his staff attacked the transfer portal, adding Amari Evans, Mikey Lewis, David Punch, Isaiah Johnson and Elijah Freeman.

That group gives Texas fresh talent, versatility and plenty of intrigue heading into the season.

The challenge, of course, is getting all those pieces to fit quickly. December games don’t define a season, but they can expose exactly how close a team is to becoming dangerous.

Louisville brings history. Texas brings expectations. That’s usually when things get fun.

With the game set for Dec. 1, Longhorns fans can go ahead and circle the date. The time will come later, but the stakes are already obvious.
