Samantha Swan was reportedly in Austin this week.
Home-grown talents like Teagan Kavan, Reese Atwood, and Katie Stewart were anchors that helped Texas win back-to-back Women's College World Series national titles, but that doesn't exempt the Longhorns from also being active in the transfer portal to search for pieces that help aim for a three-peat.
The NCAA DI softball transfer portal opened Monday, and Texas reportedly visited with a top name on the market.
According to reporter Travis Galey, Arizona State catcher Samantha Swan visited with the Longhorns on Monday.
Swan, a native of nearby Georgetown, Texas, could spend her senior season in Austin after a first-team All-Big 12 season with the Sun Devils in 2026. According to On3, Swan is currently the No. 9-ranked player overall and the top-ranked catcher in the portal on its opening day.
Her third season in Tempe saw Swan reach career-highs in batting average (.383), hits (69), home runs (12) and slugging (.700).
For the Longhorns and head coach Mike White, Swan would be an immediate fill-in for an incoming roster hole next season.
Atwood's graduation ends her Texas career as the most productive offensive weapon in school history, as the Longhorns' career leader in home runs and runs batted in. She ended her career as the nation's best defensive catcher, as well, taking home Gold Glove honors as Kavan's backstop in 2026.
Swan and the Longhorns are awfully familiar with one another, which is reason to believe why White made sure she was an immediate contact once the portal opened.
In the Austin Super Regional, Swan's Sun Devils were eliminated by the eventual champions, but it wasn't because of her contributions. She hit .400 in the three-game series and added five runs batted in and a run scored.
Her best game came in the series opener, where Arizona State stunned Texas 4-1, forcing the Horns to win back-to-back games to advance to Oklahoma City.
In Game 1 of the Supers, Swan went 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in - a single in the third inning to put the Devils on the board first, then a two-run single in the fifth that proved to be the game-winner as it gave ASU a lead it wouldn't give up the rest of the way.
Kavan and Stewart are entering their final collegiate seasons, meaning it's paramount to maximize their talents with another all-in effort. White has had success in the portal before, with Kaiah Altmeyer making a major impact on this year's team after transferring from Arizona.
With a big piece leaving behind the plate and in the lineup, Swan could represent the perfect opportunity to reload another roster that would be poised to keep the national championship trophy on the Forty Acres next summer.
