Texas landed Colorado transfer Isaiah Johnson, giving Sean Miller a proven scorer and playmaker after a major offseason shakeup in the Longhorns backcourt.

Texas basketball has its first major transfer portal win of the Sean Miller era, and it’s a big one. Former Colorado guard Isaiah Johnson committed to the Longhorns on Saturday after emerging as one of the top backcourt players available this cycle.

The move gives Texas an immediate scoring boost as the program retools its roster for 2026-27.

Johnson arrives in Austin after a breakout freshman season at Colorado, where he averaged 16.9 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from 3-point range.

He also earned All-Big 12 honorable mention recognition and finished as one of the most productive freshmen in the country. Colorado noted that his 540 points set the school’s freshman scoring record, another sign of the kind of offensive talent Texas is bringing in.

For Texas, the fit makes plenty of sense. Johnson gives Miller a guard who can score at all three levels, create off the bounce and help stabilize a backcourt that has seen major turnover this offseason.

Reports around the commitment describe him as one of the best guards in the portal, and his three remaining years of eligibility make him more than just a short-term addition.

His commitment also comes at an important time for the Longhorns, who are keeping center Matas Vokietaitis in the fold while continuing to reshape the roster around Miller’s vision.

With Johnson now in the mix, Texas has landed a dynamic young guard who can help right away and potentially become a foundational piece in Austin for years.
