Texas forward Nic Codie says he’ll return next season after a strong finish to the NCAA Tournament, giving Sean Miller a proven piece for 2026-27.

Texas basketball got an early offseason win when Nic Codie made it clear he’s coming back for another season.

With Sean Miller already turning the page toward 2026-27 after the Longhorns’ March Madness exit, Codie’s return gives Texas a valuable piece to build around as the roster begins to shift.

Codie finished the season playing some of his best basketball.

The Texas forward took a noticeable step during his sophomore year, posting career highs in games played, scoring, and rebounding.

He appeared in 24 games, averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds, and showed he could handle a larger role when Texas needed frontcourt energy and toughness.

Those numbers won’t jump off the page compared to the team’s top scorers, but they do show growth from a player who became more dependable as the season moved along.

Nic Codie also delivered in the NCAA Tournament, which is where his return becomes even more intriguing for Texas basketball next season.

In three tournament games, he put up 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out six assists, and added two steals.

He didn’t waste his opportunities, and his impact went beyond the box score. He brought physicality, effort, and a steady presence in key minutes.

Sean Miller’s trust in him seemed to grow late in the season, too. Codie logged 53 minutes over Texas’ final two games, a strong sign that the coaching staff believes he can handle bigger moments against high-level competition.

Now the focus shifts to what comes next. Codie will return to a Texas roster that’s expected to welcome talented freshmen Bo Ogden and Austin Goosby, two newcomers who could help boost the offense right away.

Their arrival should add excitement, but Codie’s development may be just as important.

With roster turnover expected, proven players matter. Texas now knows it will have one in Nic Codie, and that gives the Longhorns a solid starting point as Miller begins shaping next season’s team.
