Relief sweeps through Austin as MRI results reveal a bone bruise for All-SEC tackle Trevor Goosby, preserving a vital blindside protector for Arch Manning’s highly anticipated season.
Texas Longhorns fans can breathe a little easier after holding their breath over Trevor Goosby.
The star left tackle left Monday's practice with a left knee injury, creating some immediate uncertainty surrounding one of the most important pieces of Texas' offense entering the 2026 season.
The initial diagnosis has now provided some good news.
Goosby underwent an MRI on Tuesday morning and was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported.
A timetable for his return has not yet been determined, according to Thamel, who added that more clarity on that front is expected in the near future.
That's still an important question for Texas.
But the Longhorns now at least know the diagnosis after Goosby's exit from practice initially left the extent of his injury unclear.
And there aren't many players Texas would rather avoid losing for an extended period.
The 6-7, 325-pound Goosby started all 13 games at left tackle last season and earned First-Team All-SEC honors.
He enters 2026 as a Preseason First-Team All-SEC selection after electing to return to Austin for another season rather than enter the NFL Draft.
Goosby's return also gave Texas an established presence protecting Arch Manning's blind side ... and his NFL future is already generating plenty of attention.
Bleacher Report scout Brandon Thorn recently wrote that Goosby holds the "inside track to be the top blocker off the board" in the 2027 NFL Draft, pointing toward his combination of size, strength and length.
That's the caliber of player Texas is waiting on.
His absence would leave Texas replacing more than just a starter up front ... but would temporarily remove one of the few proven constants from an offensive line entering a pivotal season.
The Longhorns open the season against Texas State on Sept. 5 before hosting Ohio State in Week 2 on Sept. 12, making Goosby's eventual return timetable particularly noteworthy.
For now, there's no guarantee he'll be available for either game.
There's also no reason to project how much time he'll miss until Texas or additional reporting provides a clearer timetable.
The most important update Tuesday is simply the diagnosis.
Goosby's left knee injury is a bone bruise. Now the Longhorns wait to find out when their star left tackle can return.
