Texas football is set to host 2027 safety Junior James, a rising Alabama prospect whose visit could give Steve Sarkisian another key recruiting target in the secondary.

Texas football recruiting stays busy even in the heart of the offseason, and this week the spotlight shifts to 2027 safety Junior James.

The Longhorns are bringing the Alabama defensive back to Austin for a campus visit, giving Steve Sarkisian and his staff another chance to make an early impression on one of the South’s rising prospects.

Texas football recruiting for the 2027 cycle is already starting to take shape. James, who plays at Thompson High School in Alabama, has emerged as a name to know after a productive sophomore season.

He posted 66 total tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass breakups in 2025, showing the kind of range and ball skills that have turned him into a national target.

The Longhorns won’t be alone in the chase. James already holds offers from major programs, including Alabama, Oregon, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Indiana, and BYU.

That kind of list says plenty about how his recruitment is trending and how valuable he could become as the 2027 class gains momentum.

Sarkisian has built one of college football’s strongest recruiting operations, and the Longhorns are already stacking talent in the 2027 group.

Four-star commitments from Easton Royal and Cameron Hall have given the class early juice, while JT Geraci, Cade Huag, Karnell James, and Ty Knutson have added more foundation pieces.

Now the next step is adding difference-makers on defense, especially in the secondary. That’s where Junior James fits.

His production as a sophomore suggests he’s more than just a developmental prospect. He’s already shown he can diagnose plays, finish tackles, and make quarterbacks pay for mistakes.

Visits don’t decide everything this early, but they can shift momentum.

If James leaves Austin convinced by the culture, coaching staff, and long-term vision, Texas could put itself in a strong position moving forward.

For now, he’s one of the more important defensive names to watch in the Longhorns’ 2027 recruiting board.
