Texas football has entered the race for 2028 offensive lineman Joey Fleming as Steve Sarkisian’s staff keeps building early recruiting momentum.

Texas football is putting more attention on the trenches in the 2028 recruiting cycle, and one of the latest names to know is Joey Fleming.

The Huntsville, Alabama, offensive lineman picked up an offer from the Longhorns this week, giving Steve Sarkisian and his staff a shot at one of the more intriguing early blockers on the board.

For Texas football recruiting, the move makes plenty of sense. The Longhorns have built a strong reputation for offensive line development, and that’s the kind of selling point that matters when battling for a prospect like Fleming.

The challenge, of course, is that Texas won’t have this one to itself.

Fleming already holds offers from a heavyweight group that includes Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame.

That’s a serious list, and it shows just how much early attention he’s getting from major programs across the country.

When that many schools jump in, it usually means a recruitment is going to get crowded fast.

That’s why getting Fleming to Austin could become one of the next priorities for Sarkisian’s staff. He’s already made visits to Tennessee, Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Vanderbilt, and more stops are likely coming as his profile continues to grow.

Texas now has to turn an offer into a real relationship and make the Forty Acres part of his recruiting map.

The Longhorns are still waiting on their first commitment in the 2028 class, but that’s hardly unusual this early in the cycle. What matters more right now is positioning, and Texas appears focused on doing exactly that with a number of blue-chip prospects.

Fleming joins a broader list of highly regarded 2028 recruits the Longhorns have already targeted, including Neimann Lawrence, Micah Rhodes, Brysen Wright, Deandre Bidden, Braxton Rein, R’Monie Edwards and Jalanie George.

For now, Fleming is simply a name to keep circling. But if Texas can get him on campus and lean on its recent offensive line success, this could become a recruitment worth watching closely.
