Texas has added another blue-chip safety to its 2028 recruiting board, offering Houston-area standout Savion James of Summer Creek.

Texas football is making the safety position a clear priority in the 2028 recruiting class, and the Longhorns have now turned their attention to one of the better defensive backs in their own backyard.

Four-star safety Savion James of Summer Creek High School in Houston announced that Texas has offered him following a conversation with defensive backs coach Blake Gideon.

“After a great conversation with @Coach_Gideon Im excited to announce Ive been offered by Texas 🤘,” James wrote on social media.

The offer comes just days after Texas also entered the recruitment of four-star safety Antwaun Adams of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

James gives the Longhorns another intriguing option at the position ... and one who comes with a strong in-state connection.

The 2028 prospect is listed around 5-10, 170 pounds by current recruiting services and has already collected more than 20 offers. His list includes Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU and Houston, among others.

James is currently ranked No. 233 nationally and No. 23 among safeties in the Rivals Industry Ranking, with services differing somewhat on his exact placement inside the Texas class. That’s a notable update from earlier rankings that had him lower nationally.

Either way, the offer sheet tells the story.

Programs across the SEC, Big 12 and beyond are already treating James as one of the more important defensive backs in the 2028 cycle.

For Texas, the next step is straightforward: get him to Austin.

An unofficial visit before the end of the season would give Steve Sarkisian’s staff an opportunity to strengthen the relationship and show James how he fits into the Longhorns’ defensive plans.

Texas already has its quarterback foundation in place for 2028 with four-star Neimann Lawrence, who committed in June. Now the staff is beginning to build outward from that early centerpiece.

Adding multiple high-end safeties to the board this early suggests Texas isn’t waiting around.

The Longhorns want options, especially at a position where size, range and versatility have become increasingly valuable in the SEC.

James now belongs firmly on that list.
