Texas’ recruiting heater keeps rolling as Steve Sarkisian’s class adds elite commits and eyes a wild week of decisions across the secondary.
Texas recruiting is starting to feel less like a hot streak and more like a takeover.
Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns have been right in the middle of a chaotic summer recruiting run, stacking major commitments while positioning themselves for even more fireworks this week.
The headline grabber is John Meredith III, the elite cornerback commit who gives Texas one of the biggest defensive wins of the Sarkisian era.
Meredith isn’t just another blue-chip defensive back. He’s the No. 2 overall player in the country and brings rare cornerback tools at 6-2 with 33-inch arms.
That kind of length can wreck passing windows, erase receivers and change how offenses call games. For Texas, he’s the type of player who can walk into Austin with Day 1 expectations.
Will Muschamp’s fingerprints are all over that win, and now the job becomes keeping him locked in. Texas A&M probably isn’t going away quietly, but Texas can’t afford to let this one wobble.
Meredith has program-changer written all over him.
The Longhorns also landed a massive piece up front with four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson. At 6-6 and 320 pounds, Swanson gives offensive line coach Kyle Flood a high-upside building block at a time when Texas could lose multiple starters to the NFL Draft.
His track-and-field background in the shot put and discus adds to the appeal. He’s big, athletic and versatile enough to project inside or outside.
Now the Longhorns are trying to keep the machine rolling.
Three-star wide receiver Kyron Brown is set to announce Tuesday, June 23, with Texas battling Kansas State and Baylor. The Amarillo product brings track speed and upside at 6-0, 185 pounds.
If Texas lands him, it would be another June win for a class that’s already gaining serious momentum.
The secondary could get even louder Friday, June 26. Four-star safety Junior Tu’upo once looked like an Alabama lean, but Texas appears to have flipped the energy after his Austin visit.
He had seven pass breakups and three interceptions as a junior and would give the class its first true safety pledge.
Four-star cornerback Montre Jackson is also one to watch, with Texas and SMU fighting near the finish line.
Meanwhile, 2028 quarterback Neimann Lawrence, the No. 5 quarterback in his class, could give Sarkisian another future centerpiece from American Heritage.
Add in key visitors like Easton Royal, Karnell James, Monshun Sales and Landen Williams-Callis, and the message is obvious.
