Texas softball just made one of the loudest portal moves of the offseason, and Isa Torres could change the entire look of the Longhorns’ lineup.
The former Florida State shortstop is headed back to her home state after becoming one of the most dangerous bats available in the transfer portal.
For a Texas program still chasing the final step toward a national championship, this isn’t just a depth piece. It’s a statement.
Torres was a nightmare for pitchers in 2025, hitting .530 with 56 RBIs and 44 extra-base hits.
She also ripped a career-best 21 doubles, showing she’s not just a contact hitter who piles up singles. She can drive the ball, stretch innings and put real pressure on defenses.
And this wasn’t a one-year burst.
Across three seasons at Florida State, Torres stacked up 261 hits in 175 games.
That kind of production travels. So does the resume.
Torres owns the NCAA record for most consecutive hits with 16, was named ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2026, and was a top-10 finalist for the 2025 USA Softball National Player of the Year award.
That’s exactly the kind of player Texas needed.
The Longhorns already have major firepower in the infield with Vivianna Martinez and Katie Stewart, who blasted a school-record 31 home runs in 2026.
Add Torres into that mix, and Texas suddenly has one of the most dangerous offensive cores in the country.
There’s still portal work to be done, and Texas likely isn’t finished reshaping this roster.
But landing Torres checks off a massive need.

She brings elite production, defensive credibility and big-game experience from Florida State. More importantly, she gives Texas another player capable of taking over a game.
