Texas baseball is stacking wins, but the loudest statement over the past week came from one bat: Temo Becerra.
The Longhorns infielder didn’t just help Texas go 4-0—he basically served as the offense’s on-demand highlight reel, and the SEC noticed. Becerra was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, and it’s hard to argue with the numbers.
Over that four-game heater, Becerra hit .500 with a ridiculous 2.005 OPS, flashing both power and timing like he’s seeing beach balls at the plate. He mashed three home runs, ripped two doubles, and drove in seven runs.
The signature moment came in a multi-homer game against No. 9 Coastal Carolina, the first of his career.
And if anyone wondered whether it would travel, Becerra answered that too—launching a two-run shot vs. Ohio State at the BRUCE BOLT College Classic, a stage built for big swings and bigger names.
What makes Becerra’s surge even more dangerous is that it doesn’t look fluky. Through 11 games, the redshirt senior is hitting .353 with 12 RBI, and his approach has been downright annoying for pitchers in the best way.
He’s drawn nine walks while striking out just four times, which is basically the baseball version of refusing to bite on anything but your best punch.
This is how lineup anchors change a season. When your best hitters are controlling counts, punishing mistakes, and cashing in runners, the rest of the order suddenly feels taller.
Texas has plenty of road ahead, but if Becerra keeps swinging like this, the Longhorns won’t just be winning games—they’ll be bullying weekends.
