Texas football recruiting is heating up again, and one of the nation’s most coveted prospects is heading to Austin for a closer look.
Maxx Jones, a highly ranked 2028 offensive tackle, has scheduled an unofficial visit with the Texas Longhorns on April 4, giving Steve Sarkisian and his staff a valuable opportunity to strengthen their pitch.
Landing Jones won’t be easy. The talented Florida offensive lineman is already drawing national attention and a packed visit schedule that reads like a college football powerhouse tour.
Along with Texas, Jones is planning trips to LSU, SMU, Texas A&M, Florida, Miami, and Michigan, while also working to arrange additional visits with Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, and Missouri.
In other words, the competition for Jones is fierce.
According to 247Sports recruiting rankings, Jones currently sits among the elite prospects in the 2028 recruiting class, ranking No. 8 among offensive tackles, No. 17 overall in the state of Florida, and No. 44 nationally.
Those rankings explain why nearly every major program in the country wants him anchoring their future offensive line.
For Texas, this visit represents more than just another recruiting stop. Sarkisian and his staff are working to build momentum in the Longhorns’ 2028 recruiting class, which has yet to land its first commitment but is already targeting some of the nation’s top young prospects.
Players such as Asher Ghioto, Dawson Jacobs, Tahj Gray, Nate Dollard, and Jame Foster III are already on the Longhorns’ radar as the program lays the groundwork for another strong class.
When Jones steps on campus in April, the Texas staff will likely highlight one key selling point: development.
The Longhorns have consistently produced NFL-caliber offensive linemen, and that track record could resonate with a player whose future projects at the highest level of college football.
Recruiting battles often come down to relationships, culture, and opportunity.
On April 4, Texas gets its chance to show Maxx Jones exactly what life in burnt orange could look like.
