Sebastian Gorzny and Kalin Ivanovski earn SEC honors after leading Texas to its first ITA Indoors National Championship.

Texas men’s tennis continues to stack accolades following its breakthrough ITA Indoor National Championship run, and now the recognition is rolling in from the SEC.

Senior Sebastian Gorzny was named SEC Athlete of the Week, while freshman Kalin Ivanovski earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after their standout performances powered the Longhorns to the national title.

Gorzny delivered at the top of the lineup, going 3-0 in singles at the No. 1 position with two top-15 wins and another victory over a top-50 opponent.

His week included a clutch comeback over Texas A&M’s Theo Papamalamis and a straight-sets win against TCU’s Duncan Chan that helped swing momentum in a tight quarterfinal battle.

In the championship match versus No. 2 Ohio State, Gorzny defeated No. 13 Aidan Kim 6-4, 6-4 to put Texas back in front en route to a 4-2 team victory.

The senior has been dominant this season, improving to 15-3 overall in singles and 9-1 in dual matches, riding an eight-match win streak at the top spot.

He also contributed in doubles, securing key tiebreak victories - including a win over the nation’s top-ranked pair during the title match.

Ivanovski, meanwhile, announced himself on the national stage. The freshman went undefeated in singles during the tournament, compiling a 3-0 mark at No. 2 against ranked opponents. His clinching straight-sets victory over Ohio State’s No. 22 Preston Stearns sealed the national championship for Texas.

Despite missing time earlier this season due to injury, Ivanovski has quickly become a dependable presence, posting a 4-2 record in dual singles play.

Together, Gorzny and Ivanovski led Texas past ranked opponents, including Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor and Ohio State. The sweep of SEC weekly honors underscores just how pivotal their performances were in delivering one of the biggest championships in program history.
