Texas is wasting little time identifying playmakers for its 2027 recruiting class, and wide receiver is clearly a priority. That focus sharpened Tuesday when the Longhorns extended an offer to Benny Easter Jr., one of the most productive and explosive pass catchers in the state and a current Texas Tech commit.
Easter, a standout at Summer Creek High School, has steadily built a reputation as a difference-maker every time he steps on the field.
Recruiting services already view him as one of the top receivers in the class, with national rankings placing him firmly among the country’s better prospects and inside the top group of players from Texas.
Through his first two varsity seasons, Easter has been a constant offensive engine. He has piled up well over 2,000 receiving yards and found the end zone more than 30 times, showing an ability to stretch the field, win contested catches, and create after the reception.
That versatility is what has drawn interest from several Power Five programs, including multiple SEC schools, even with his commitment already on the books.
The Longhorns are not shying away from difficult recruiting battles, especially when the payoff could reshape a position group. If Easter were to eventually join the class, he would slot into a receiver room that is already taking shape.
Texas has landed four-star wideout Easton Royal, a player with a different but complementary skill set, and pairing the two would give the Longhorns a strong foundation at the position.
Recruiting insiders often stress that elite offenses are built years in advance, and Texas appears to be following that blueprint. The 2027 class already sits comfortably inside the national top 20, with commitments spread across the defensive front, secondary, and skill positions.
That balance allows the staff to be aggressive in targeting high-upside prospects like Easter without forcing immediate decisions.
Flipping a committed recruit is never simple, especially one who has attracted attention from across the country. Still, Texas has made it clear that it sees Easter as a priority rather than a luxury.
The next few months should provide clarity. With roster needs to address and momentum on the trail, Texas is positioning itself as a program to watch in the 2027 cycle, and Benny Easter Jr. sits squarely near the center of that conversation.
