Historic Nights From Love and Maupin Wasted as Iowa State Slips Past Texas Tech cover image

Love and Maupin etched their names in history, but stellar performances couldn't prevent Iowa State's late surge, snapping Texas Tech's momentum.

Texas Tech women’s basketball checked off major milestones Wednesday night, but the final result didn’t match the significance of the moment.

Despite landmark performances from Sidney Love and Bailey Maupin, the No. 21 Lady Raiders couldn’t keep pace late, falling 84-70 to Iowa State inside United Supermarkets Arena.

The loss snapped some momentum for Texas Tech, now 20-3 overall and 7-3 in Big 12 play, but it didn’t overshadow a pair of individual achievements that further cemented the senior leaders in program history.

Love delivered her best scoring performance of the season, pouring in 17 points while officially crossing the 1,000-career-point mark. She was aggressive from the opening tip, attacking off the dribble, knocking down perimeter shots, and setting up teammates.

Love also filled the stat sheet with four assists, two steals, and steady on-ball defense, showcasing the all-around impact that has defined her career.

Maupin wasn’t far behind. The senior scored 16 points and moved into fifth place on Texas Tech’s all-time scoring list, passing a program legend in the process. Her efficiency stood out, as she finished strong around the basket, knocked down timely threes, and consistently battled on the glass.

Maupin now owns 21 double-figure scoring games this season, a testament to her consistency and leadership.

Texas Tech received additional offensive support from Snudda Collins, who matched Maupin with 16 points and provided a spark during multiple comeback attempts.

Denae Fritz added eight points, five rebounds, and key ball movement, while the Lady Raiders shot over 42 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers.

The game swung on Iowa State’s ability to answer every Texas Tech run. Each time the Lady Raiders trimmed the deficit, the Cyclones responded with timely shooting and second-chance points.

Iowa State stretched a slim halftime lead into a double-digit cushion in the third quarter, then put the game away with a decisive run early in the fourth.

Even so, the effort never waned. Texas Tech continued to push the pace and attack until the final horn, a trait that will matter as the postseason approaches.

The Lady Raiders won’t have much time to dwell on the setback. A massive Big 12 showdown awaits Sunday, when No. 10 TCU comes to Lubbock for a nationally televised matchup on FS1 ... another opportunity for Texas Tech to turn milestone moments into a statement win.
