The Red Raiders shook off early-season sluggishness, riding J'Koby Williams’ explosive 165-yard rushing performance and a relentless six-sack defense to remain perfect while extending their home winning streak.
LUBBOCK - No. 10 Texas Tech came out of its bye week and sent a message about the slow starts that had become the norm for the Red Raiders in first halves this season.
After fumbling in the red zone on their opening drive, the Red Raiders scored on nine of their next 10 drives to throttle Arizona State 53-25, improving to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play.
The homecoming-day win is Texas Tech's 12th in a row at Galaxy Stadium, matching the second-longest home win streak in program history.
Will Hammond looked in command from the start. The first-year starting quarterback was 18 of 26 through the air for 232 yards and two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
Tech running back J'Koby Williams had a career day as fellow starter Cam Dickey was out with a high-ankle sprain. Williams compiled a career-high in rushing yards by halftime on his way to 165 yards in the game on just 11 carries, averaging 15.0 yards per handoff and scoring two touchdowns on the ground.
The pass rush was just as dominant for the Red Raiders, who sacked the Sun Devils' two quarterbacks a total of six times.
Texas Tech's next game is at Cincinnati; the Bearcats fell 45-42 on Saturday in Morgantown to West Virginia.
