No. 10 Texas Tech basketball heads to Provo Saturday night for a high-scoring Big 12 showdown against BYU, and the Red Raiders know they’re walking into one of the toughest road environments in the conference.
The Red Raiders have already beaten the Cougars once this season, taking down BYU 84-71 in January behind a monster 27-point performance from JT Toppin. But playing at the Marriott Center is a different challenge entirely.
BYU has been strong on its home floor, posting an 11-3 record in Provo while averaging 84.4 points per game.
The Cougars rely heavily on star freshman AJ Dybantsa, who has been one of the most electric scorers in college basketball this season. Dybantsa is averaging 24.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, and he remains the focal point of BYU’s offense.
Texas Tech, however, brings one of the most dangerous perimeter attacks in the country.
The Red Raiders rank seventh nationally in 3-pointers made per game (11.5) and are shooting an impressive 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Guard Donovan Atwell has been the engine behind that long-range barrage, knocking down 3.8 3-pointers per game while shooting 45.6 percent from deep.
Meanwhile, Christian Anderson has emerged as one of the most complete guards in the Big 12. Over the last 10 games, Anderson has averaged 15.8 points and 7.3 assists, helping orchestrate a balanced Texas Tech offense that shares the ball effectively.
The Red Raiders also bring one of the conference’s toughest defenses, allowing just 72.2 points per game while forcing opponents into difficult shots.
Momentum slightly favors Texas Tech entering the matchup. The Red Raiders have gone 6-4 over their last 10 games, while BYU has struggled recently, posting a 3-7 record during that same stretch.
Still, this matchup has all the ingredients of a shootout.
If Texas Tech’s three-point shooting stays hot and the defense can slow down Dybantsa, the Red Raiders could leave Provo with another key Big 12 road victory.
