If there were any doubts about No. 2 Texas Tech softball’s championship ceiling, they were erased in the California desert.
Kaitlyn Terry delivered the first no-hitter of her career, and the Red Raiders detonated for a season-high 16 runs in a five-inning demolition of UC Riverside to close the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Tech heads back to Lubbock at 16-1 overall after a flawless 5-0 week that included three shutouts.
From the opening inning, this one felt over.
The Red Raiders hung seven runs before UC Riverside could blink. Mihyia Davis set the tone with two doubles in the first frame alone, while Mia Williams and Desirae Spearman each launched two-run home runs to turn the scoreboard into a track meet.
One inning later, Lagi Quiroga crushed a three-run blast, part of a jaw-dropping nine-homer weekend for Tech.
And while the lineup was lighting fireworks, Terry was painting corners.
The right-hander worked five efficient innings, striking out six and issuing just two walks.
Only two batters reached base - and one of those was erased on a double play. The defense stayed sharp behind her, preserving the no-hit bid and slamming the door.
Tech’s depth was just as impressive as its power.
Twelve different Red Raiders crossed the plate and 11 players recorded hits. Hailey Toney went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Spearman finished 2-for-2 with three RBI. Alana Johnson singled home a run, and NiJaree Canady added an RBI double to keep the pressure relentless.
Even the freshmen joined the party as California natives Brianna Hinson and Angelyna Conde made their first career plate appearances in their home state.
Hinson notched a single, Conde drew a walk, and both came around to score.
It was domination in every phase: pitching, defense, power, depth.
Now the Red Raiders finally return to Lubbock for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, bringing with them momentum, confidence and one very special milestone for Kaitlyn "KT" Terry.
