Texas Tech softball delivered a statement Saturday afternoon, knocking off No. 11 Texas A&M before rolling past Providence to finish a perfect day in front of a record-setting crowd at Davis Diamond.
The Red Raiders showed both power and poise, leaning on timely hitting and dominant pitching to improve to 5-0 on the young season.
The marquee moment came in the opener against the Aggies, where Texas Tech struck fast and never blinked.
Mihyia Davis set the tone with a leadoff home run, and Mia Williams followed immediately with a solo shot of her own, giving Tech an early jolt. Texas A&M answered with a two-run homer, but that was all the offense they could muster against NiJaree Canady.
Canady was steady and efficient in the circle, working seven innings on just 77 pitches while allowing only one hit over the final three frames.
She struck out five and slammed the door with a punchout to end the game, securing a 3-2 win that marked Tech’s first victory over a ranked opponent this season.
Williams delivered the decisive blow at the plate, driving in the go-ahead run with a fifth-inning double. Through five games, Williams has been scorching, hitting .714 with 11 RBI and 24 total bases.
There was little time to celebrate before the Red Raiders turned their attention to Providence, and the bats stayed hot.
Texas Tech erupted for five runs in the opening inning and never let up in a 13-1 win. Taylor Pannell powered the offense, finishing 3-for-4 with six RBI, highlighted by a three-run homer.
In the circle, Kaitlyn Terry was electric, striking out seven consecutive hitters after a leadoff single and finishing with nine strikeouts in three innings.
Chloe Riassetto closed things out cleanly, and Texas Tech walked off Saturday with confidence, momentum, and a growing national presence.
