The Texas Longhorns took down Texas Tech 4-1 in Thursday's Game 2 of the Women's College World Series finals.
The Red Raiders end the season national runners-up for the second year in a row at the hands of their in-state rivals.
Texas Tech was in familiar territory, not just from throughout the 2026 NCAA tournament, but from last year's Women's College World Series championship against the Texas Longhorns.
In 2025, when the Longhorns beat the Red Raiders in three games to capture their first national championship, Texas took Game 1. That's the case again in the rematch after the No. 2-seed defending champs beat 11-seed Tech 7-3 on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
It wasn't meant to be, yet again.

9:20 pm: The Red Raiders go down in order. The Longhorns hoist their second national championship trophy after beating NiJaree Canady and Texas Tech for the second year in a row.
The Red Raiders' season ends at 61-10.
9:11 pm: Texas scores on a single to right field by Goode in the top of the seventh. It's a 4-1 lead for the Longhorns against Nija, and there are still two runners on and one out.
9:06 pm: Canady returns to the circle with Texas Tech on the brink of elimination. Texas extends the lead with a home run by Kayden Henry, putting the Longhorns up 3-1.
9:02 pm: Kavan enters for Texas. She strikes out the side.
8:53 pm: Halleman makes another amazing catch at the left field wall. Texas Tech gets out of the top of the sixth unscathed. Now's the best time as any for the offense to get going...
8:44: Red Raiders' bats go down quietly against Gutierrez as Texas ace Teagan Kavan warms up in the bullpen. Longhorns lead 2-1 going to the sixth inning.
8:35 pm: Canady back in the circle to begin the fifth, but Texas gets two singles to lead off the inning. An infield tag by Taylor Pannell at third gets the lead runner for the first out. Logan Halleman makes a run-saving catch in left field for the second out. Intentional walk of Stewart to load the bases. A throwing error by Toney scores two for Texas. Longhorns lead 2-1 in a hurry.
8:20 pm: Bottom of the fourth and Tech leading 1-0, Kaitlyn Terry heads to the bullpen to warm up. Canady is added into the batting lineup and works a walk. Pinch-runner Logan Halleman moved over to third base on a wild pitch. Mia Williams is plunked on the knee, loading the bases. Davis lines out. Texas escapes a jam.
8:10 pm: Burns finds her second base hit of the game, this time against Texas relief pitcher Hannah Wells.
8:04 pm: Canady wins another battle with Texas' power hitter Katie Stewart. The Horns' other All-American, Reese Atwood, rips a double to left field with two outs in the fourth. Leighann Goode then gets aboard with a hit-by-pitch. Canady gets out of it with an infield popout.
7:53 pm: Davis is on base again, this time with a single, and added her second steal of the game. Tech has had a base runner in the first three innings against Gutierrez. Texas missed a challenge that Davis took off early. Davis comes around to score on a hard-hit ball to second base by Lauren Allred. Red Raiders lead 1-0.
7:43 pm: A MUCH better start for the Texas Tech defense on the left side. The Red Raiders put together a clean top of the third inning with two groundouts and shortstop Hailey Toney snagging a liner. Canady is dealing.
7:38 pm: The Red Raiders get two aboard with Kaitlyn Terry working a walk and Jasmyn Burns singling to right field, but Gutierrez wipes it away with a strikeout and an unassisted groundout to first.
7:28 pm: A 1-2-3 inning for Canady in the circle.
7:22 pm: End of the first inning. Mihyia Davis gets aboard with a hit-by-pitch, steals second base, but is left stranded as Jackie Lis lines out to center. We're scoreless with both teams stranding a runner at second after a steal.
7:15 pm: Canady allows a leadoff single to Kayden Henry, but retires the side with two popouts and a soft grounder back to herself. Red Raiders coming to bat.
7:07 pm: The Longhorns will bat first, meaning Texas Tech is the home team for Game 2.
6:53 pm: Texas Tech names NiJaree Canady as the starting pitcher for Game 2. Kaitlyn Terry is starting in left field and batting sixth. The Red Raiders' best arms are fresh and available.
6:30 pm (CST): First pitch is slated for 7 pm on ESPN.
