The Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback reportedly remains undecided as he deals with a gambling addiction through a residential treatment program, leaving NFL teams to weigh talent against risk.
Sorsby’s situation is complicated. He’s viewed as a real quarterback prospect, not just a desperation flyer. One NFL executive reportedly said scouts had been excited to evaluate him and believed he could’ve been in the early-round conversation for the 2027 NFL Draft.
That’s why this potential supplemental draft move matters.
But the red flags are loud, especially because he plays quarterback. NFL teams can live with a lot of risk, but a gambling investigation around a signal-caller hits differently.
Teams want their quarterback obsessed with preparation, leadership and stability. Any concern that betting could interfere with that is going to scare off plenty of general managers.

The 2027 draft class may offer cleaner options, but Sorsby’s upside could tempt someone looking to get ahead of the market.
There’s also a human side here. A college coach suggested Sorsby’s situation may reflect a broader issue among young athletes exposed to gambling culture.
That doesn’t erase the concerns, but it does add context.
