Texas Tech racked up another preseason accolade after cornerback Brice Pollock found himself up for the Jim Thorpe Award, as one of only Big 12 nominees.

With kickoff inching closer with each passing day, Texas Tech keeps garnering attention heading up to its debut.

The Red Raiders were once again represented on a preseason award watch list, and this was arguably their most impressive nod yet.

Presented to the nation's best defensive back, the Jim Thorpe Award is one of the top accolades in college football and those behind the trophy gave early insights into who they are targeting.

On a short list of just 35 names across the entirety of FBS schools, the Big 12 netted only three selections.

However, Texas Tech made sure that it was one of the programs that got a share of the spotlight after senior cornerback Brice Pollock made the cut.

He was joined by a pair of safeties within of the conference in Jamel Johnson of TCU and Faletau Satuala from BYU.

The achievement was not the first for Pollock entering his final season and all signs point to it not being close to the last.

Pollock powered onto the scene last year in Lubbock following a debut outing that saw him tally 48 tackles and most notably five interceptions, which tied for most in the Big 12 and ranked among the highest totals nationally.

This strong performance landed him an All-Big 12 First Team selection to close out the season and drew several eyes to Pollock throughout the offseason.

Outside of the Thorpe Award consideration, Pollock has been tabbed to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, which honors the sport's most outstanding defensive player.

He also appeared again on the All-Big 12 Team, this time on the preseason edition.

Although Texas Tech has never had a Red Raider take home the Thorpe Award, there has been a recent trend of breaking into uncharted territory and setting new precedents for the program.

It is a strong comparison before any games have been played, but linebacker Jacob Rodriguez claimed several awards last year that had never before graced Lubbock.

With the caliber of play Pollock has already showcased, it is very easy to envision him being squarely in the running for the award and potentially more throughout the entire season.

Texas Tech is shaping up to be a serious threat to contend for another Big 12 title and possibly a whole lot more again this year and Pollock is at the center of a group looked to lead the Red Raiders to new heights.

If he follows through on those expectations, Pollock could be adding a few personal pieces of hardware to the trophy case, as well.
