Texas Tech basketball picked up more national recognition this week, as JT Toppin and Christian Anderson were each honored on Dick Vitale’s postseason award teams after helping fuel a memorable 2025-26 campaign.
For a Red Raiders program that spent much of the year in the national conversation, the selections felt like another sign that Texas Tech basketball produced some of the sport’s most impactful stars.
Toppin, in particular, looked every bit like one of the best frontcourt players in college basketball before injury cut short his season.
The Texas Tech forward averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, piling up 16 double-doubles in 25 games while overwhelming opponents with power, touch, and relentless work on the glass.
His season included one of the Red Raiders’ signature performances, a 31-point, 13-rebound showing at Arizona that reinforced how difficult he was to contain when he got rolling.
That kind of production made Toppin an easy choice for one of Vitale’s top postseason honor spots. And honestly, it’s hard to argue.
Few players in the country matched his nightly output, and even fewer controlled games in as many ways. He scored through contact, owned the boards, and gave Texas Tech a dependable star in the middle of a bruising Big 12 schedule.
Anderson’s recognition was different, but still meaningful.
The Red Raiders guard carved out a reputation as an explosive backcourt presence who could shift momentum with his pace, shot-making, and confidence.
While Toppin gave Texas Tech a bruising interior anchor, Anderson brought the kind of perimeter spark that keeps defenses uncomfortable.
Together, they helped shape the identity of this Texas Tech team.
Awards like these won’t change what happened in March, and they won’t erase the frustration of seeing Toppin’s season end early.
But they do capture something important: Texas Tech didn’t just have a good year. The Red Raiders had players who stood out nationally, even in a season packed with elite talent.
That’s the kind of recognition programs want. And for Texas Tech basketball, it’s more proof that the Red Raiders had stars worthy of the Dick Vitale spotlight.
