Texas Tech sharpshooter Donovan Atwell will represent the Red Raiders in the 2026 men’s 3-point championship after a record-breaking season from deep.
Texas Tech basketball is sending one of the nation’s most dangerous shooters to one of college hoops’ most entertaining postseason showcases.
Red Raiders guard Donovan Atwell has been selected for the 2026 E*TRADE Men’s 3-Point Championship, giving the senior one more stage to show off the shot that made him one of the best perimeter scorers in the country this season.
That invitation didn’t come out of nowhere.
Atwell was electric from long range all year for Texas Tech basketball, drilling 130 3-pointers to set a new single-season program record.
He finished second nationally in total makes and averaged 3.82 triples per game, while shooting an impressive 45.8 percent from beyond the arc.
In Big 12 play, he was even better, knocking down 81 of 169 attempts for 47.9 percent, another mark that reset the school record book.
Those numbers helped turn Atwell into one of the league’s most important newcomers. The transfer from UNC Greensboro averaged 13.5 points per game in his lone season with the Red Raiders and picked up All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team recognition along the way.
More than anything, Atwell gave Texas Tech a weapon defenses had to respect every time he crossed half-court.
His range stretched the floor, his confidence never seemed to fade, and his production stayed consistent enough to place him among the nation’s elite shooters.
Now he’ll head to Indianapolis and Hinkle Fieldhouse for a chance to add another highlight to a memorable final college season.
The annual event features some of the best shooters and dunkers in the country, and Atwell will try to become the latest Texas Tech player to make noise in the competition.
For a program that has seen great guards come through over the years, Atwell’s place in the record book is already secure.
But if he gets hot on that national stage, he could leave college basketball with one more signature moment in a Red Raiders uniform.
